The old man hooks a fish

When I started reading this part of the book I was very board. I actually started falling asleep. Normally I love fishing but only when I do it. But after a few more pages it wasn’t too bad. He talked alot about missing the boy and about keeping up his strenght so he could catch the big fish. It was like he always knew he would catch one but he didn’t know at the same time. He just kept trying and trying. At one point he even said he shouldn’t be a fisher but then decided it was what he was born to do. So hes trying to keep true to himself and keep his hopes high.

A part that really stood out to me was:

“come on,” the old man said aloud. “Make another turn. Just smell them. Aren’t they lovely? Eat them good now and then there is the tuna. Hard and cold and lovely. Don’t be shy, fish. Eat them.”(42)

The reason this really stood out was because this seemed like an act of a desperate man. A man that resorted to talking to himself and praying just to catch a fish. And finally he did. He hooked a fish but he found out it was huge. So he got what he wanted but  it may be more then what he can handle.
